Progress making of Purple Rain
In a few steps i will show you the making of the mosaic Purple Rain- tribute to Prince. In reality more steps were needed. But these photo’s will give you a good impression of the progress on this work.
To study the portrait i start with making a drawing of it. After that i make an andamento drawing.
We can start making the mosaic as soon as the andamento drawing is on the medium. For the face i will use marble.
A face half way through always gives a weird impression. It is still too early to determine the face is ok.

The beard consists of tiny pieces of a purple marble
The ear ! Always tricky, but it went well !
It is a feast to create his hair !
Big and small pieces, smalti and marble, all work together to create a maximum of effect !
Just a small piece of his clothes and a very cool necklace are needed and the portrait is finished !
